Songwriting Workshop 3-9 June 2012
Angie Palmer songwriting workshop at Creative Vacances in France
This Songwriting Workshop offers you the opportunity to learn from one of the UK’s finest songwriters , Angie Palmer, in a relaxed and idyllic setting. The emphasis is on creating and sharing songs and whether you are a prolific writer, have never written before, or would just like an insight into how songs are created, this is the week for you.
At Creative Vacances you will be part of a small group of like-minded people, all wanting the same thing.. to write some songs. In the peace and tranquility of the beautiful French countryside, enjoying good food and good company, you will discover the perfect conditions to bring out your creativity and write those songs that you always wanted to.
Your week with Angie will cover group instruction workshops, one-to-one tuition, writing and musical performance.
You will cover all aspects of creating a song, from how to find inspiration to the finished performance. You will work on song structure, melody, lyric writing, finding a strong hook or chorus, how to arrange a song and how to sing it.
Because songwriting is a personal thing and we all go about it in different ways, the course will be flexible and tailored around the requirements of each individual. Whether you already have some songs that you want to work on, or have never written a song but have always wanted to do so, there is something here for everyone.
At the end of the week there will be a chance to present your songs on a special performance night, solo or accompanied by Angie. This will be followed by a concert from Angie.
An Example Day
Morning session
Introduction. What makes a great song?
As a group we will listen to a song and then discuss and analyse what it is that makes it a great song.
Then you will be set a task of writing a song on a given subject.
There will be a new subject each day as this can be a great way of kick starting your songwriting.
Go start a song. Angie will go to each person individually and discuss progress, and help where needed.
Afternoon session
How to present songs, tips on singing your songs in public or on recordings.
Time to work on your songs with Angie on hand for individual contact.
Feedback on the day.
What to bring
Notebook, or laptop…for writing those songs!
Please feel free to use audio and video recording equipment during the day. Headphones are recommended for your own playback.
Having an instrument is obviously a plus, but not absolutely essential. There is a keyboard on site. If you can sing the song, then Angie can help you find the supporting chords to make your melody work.
