Dave Griffiths -Mandolin Tutor
Dave Griffiths is a renowned blues, choro and jazz mandolin player. He started playing mandolin in the 70’s influenced by blues, ragtime and jug band music. He
is the Mandolin workshop tutor at Creative Vacances
He added Folk and Italian romantic music to his repertoire and ventured into the classi-cal arena with the Beethoven Sonatas at Ashton Court Festival in 2002. He has played and recorded with Blues men Eddie Martin and Dave Peabody and is a regular member of the duo SMILE with Jim Reynolds.
As well as his mandolin projects Dave is a Jazz Bassist. He ran the now renowned BeBop club in Bristol and tutored the Bristol Jazz workshops for seven years. He also leads the mighty seven piece tribute band ‘Mingus Fingers’.
His latest project is a quartet called “Brejeiro” playing the jazz based Samba music of Brazil called Choro, their new CD ‘La Llorona’ is now available.
Always eager to raise the profile of the mandolin in Britain, Dave is active with the BMG Federation dedicated to encouraging young musicians to take up the mandolin and he runs workshops at Festivals, the BMG Rally and in his home town of Bristol. For the past five years Dave has led the Bristol Mandolin Ensemble and in 2009 conducted the London Mandolin Festival Orchestra. He is also a regular tutor at the Sore Fingers and BMG Summer Schools.
